SENATE UPDATE: Senate Returns to Work after Easter Recess
This Week
The Senate has one vote scheduled tonight to advance the nomination of former U.S. Senator David Perdue to be Ambassador to China.
Several other Trump nominees are also teed up for floor votes, including:
Warren Stephens to be Ambassador to the United Kingdom
Thomas Barrack to be Ambassador to the Republic of Turkey
Tilman Fertitt to be Ambassador to Italy
This week, Republicans in the Senate will also continue their push to pass President Trump’s “big, beautiful” budget bill. Tax relief, border security, regulatory reform, and DOGE spending cuts all hang in the balance.
This will be the biggest legislative fight of the year. Senate conservatives will be right in the middle of it, as usual, and SCF will be right there with them.
Conservative Spotlight
MIKE LEE — Sen. Mike Lee’s (R-UT) “SAVE Act,” which would require proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections, passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 220-204.
TED CRUZ — Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R-TX) “Take It Down Act,” which would ban the online publication of “revenge porn,” has been scheduled for a vote in the House this week. The bill, strongly supported by First Lady Melania Trump, has already passed the Senate and appears headed for the president’s desk.
ERIC SCHMITT — Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-MO) joined President Trump and a bipartisan congressional delegation attending Pope Francis’s funeral.
