Two Big Benefits of Trump's Tariffs
The new tariffs will push other countries to lower their trade barriers and motivate Congress to enact pro-growth reforms
President Donald Trump’s tariffs are already working.
The media won’t tell you that. Corporate elites certainly won’t tell you that. But despite all the frenzied headlines, it’s true.
How could the tariffs be working if they are being blamed for so much short-term disruption? Two ways.
FIRST, they are signaling to our global trading partners that the days of taking advantage of the United States are over. President Trump is being very clear: if you want to trade with the U.S., drop your tariffs.
And guess what — they are!
According to Fox Business, a dozen nations have already reached out to the White House to negotiate new trade deals.
President Trump himself spoke with the president of Vietnam — one of our most important strategic partners in Asia — to discuss reducing tariffs to zero. Once these negotiations begin, every other country in the world will come knocking for similar deals.
That is what “reciprocal” tariffs mean. President Trump is raising U.S. tariffs to force other countries to lower theirs.
SECOND, Trump’s tariffs are putting pressure on Congress to deliver the economic reforms the American people just voted for. How many years have politicians promised prosperity… but done nothing?
Now, that’s no longer an option. The short-term squeeze of these tariffs could hurt American families — and Republicans in the midterms — unless Congress takes action to smooth the transition. Now is the time to enact permanent, pro-growth reforms when our working families need it most:
Tax cuts across the board.
Increased energy production.
Regulatory reform to make it easy for Americans to drill, build, work, save, and create jobs.
Budget cuts to finally drain the Swamp and get the government off the American people’s backs.
This is Congress’s job right now—not proxy voting, not leadership musical chairs, and not whining on cable news. Donald Trump is keeping his promise to recenter our economy around working families. Now, we need Congress to do its part.
Thankfully, the Senate passed a budget resolution early this morning that allows these reforms to be passed with a simple majority vote using the “reconciliation” process. Now, it’s time for the House to act.
If congressional Republicans support President Trump’s economic program with pro-growth legislation, we could wake up in a few months to lower trade barriers across the globe and a red-hot economy here at home.
That will set the stage for new jobs, higher wages, a booming stock market, and a landslide victory for Republicans in 2026 and beyond.
President Trump’s tariffs are working — now it’s Congress’s turn.
