SENATE UPDATE: State of the Union, War in Iran?, Voter ID?
Senate returns to pressing security and election integrity issues
Last week, while Congress was in recess, huge issues piled up in Washington awaiting lawmakers’ return.
First, President Trump ordered a massive deployment of military personnel and equipment into the Middle East in preparation for a possible war with Iran. Diplomatic talks about the Ayatollahs’ Iran’s rogue nuclear program are ongoing, but reports indicate airstrikes could commence soon.
Second, the most popular legislative proposal in America — the SAVE America Act — has passed the House of Representatives. The bill would require all U.S. voters to prove their citizenship before registering and to present a photo ID to get a ballot. President Trump is leading a huge coalition of conservatives urging Senate Republicans to employ a “talking filibuster” strategy to pass this vital election-integrity reform.
Third, Democrats’ shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security is entering its second week. Democrats have no intention of funding the agency for now — even as the Secret Service foiled yet another threat against the president over the weekend.
These are just some of the issues President Trump will discuss at his State of the Union Address tomorrow night!

Conservative Spotlight
SCOTUS VACANCY? — Speculation swirls that a Supreme Court Justice could retire this Spring. If so, that would give President Trump the chance to appoint a fifth Justice, the most since Dwight Eisenhower. Superstar U.S. Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) spoke for many grassroots conservatives at a recent debate, suggesting Senators Mike Lee (R-UT) and Ted Cruz (R-TX) as possible SCOTUS picks. Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) has also been mentioned as a possibility. This would be a huge opportunity for President Trump to ensure his legacy survives long after he leaves the White House.
RON JOHNSON — Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) called out Minnesota’s leftwing Attorney General, Keith Ellison, at a recent Senate Homeland Security hearing. Ellison was one of the officials responsible for activists’ dangerous resistance to federal immigration officers in the state. “I, as a government official, would have said, ‘Back off. Let us work with ICE, let’s cooperate with them, let’s see if we can’t de-escalate this,” Johnson said. “But Attorney General (Ellison), you did the exact opposite, and two people are dead because you encouraged them to put themselves into harm’s way.”
NATE MORRIS — A new poll shows conservative outsider Nate Morris surging in the U.S. Senate race in Kentucky. Morris has tripled his support since the last poll in August, and cut the Establishment frontrunner’s lead from 35 points to just 11! With three months until the May primary, the race to replace Mitch McConnell is officially wide open!
This Week
The Senate has another procedural vote scheduled on a House-passed bill to reopen the Department of Homeland Security. The “Defund ICE” Democrats are expected to block it.
