Mike Lee is Right (Again)
Senate Republicans should cancel the August recess to pass the SAVE America Act
Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) just drew a line in the sand in his fight to secure America’s elections.
He took to the Senate floor and called on Republican Leader John Thune (R-SD) to cancel the Senate’s upcoming August recess. He wants the Senate to stay in session to pass national voter ID reform.
Lee has been a bulldog in this fight. He led the effort to force Democrats to conduct a talking filibuster against the SAVE America Act. He fought to keep voter ID in the reconciliation bills the House passed. He has worked tirelessly to find ways to deliver results — no excuses.
President Donald Trump is leading on this issue, too.
Thune’s “Do Nothing” Strategy
Thune is on his heels. He knows 80% of Americans support voter ID. And he knows Senate Republicans have done nothing to deserve a six-week vacation just three months before an election that could cost them their majority.
Thune recently went on TV to defend his inaction. He said Republicans don’t have the votes. But they just got 50 votes on a voter ID budget amendment. Those 50, plus Vice President J.D. Vance, are enough to pass the bill!
Thune also said the talking filibuster has not been used in a century. That’s false. The talking filibuster is how Congress passed the Civil Rights Act. The majority then did not have the votes they needed when they took up the bill. The open-ended debate is what forced the action.
Why won’t John Thune do the same on voter ID? Because most senators care more about their 2.5-day workweek and their summer vacations than about election integrity. They don’t want to fight. They don’t even want to work.
The very fact that the Senate is planning to abandon its posts for six weeks proves that it should stay! The Senate has a month and a half of open floor time. Senate leaders would rather do nothing than fight to secure our elections from foreign influence and Democrat corruption.
It’s outrageous and unacceptable.
No Results, No Recess
Not surprisingly, Mike Lee’s fight is gaining momentum. Senate conservatives are joining his effort. Rick Scott (R-FL), Ashley Moody (R-FL), Eric Schmitt (R-MO), Bill Hagerty (R-TN), Roger Marshall (R-KS), and others have come out against the surrender strategy.
As Lee said recently, “We don’t have a lack of time. We have a lack of spine.”
Senate conservatives are trying to change that. Voter ID is a fight Republicans can win. But they will never win if they don’t try.
Support Mike Lee
Mike Lee never stops fighting, and we will never stop fighting for him. SCF has stood with Mike Lee since his first campaign back in 2010. And we are proud to help grassroots conservatives continue to support him today.
He needs political support now more than ever. The Senate RINOs are attacking him with the same stuff they have been saying about effective conservatives for years — “he’s grandstanding” and “he’s demoralizing the base.”
Can you believe that?
In their minds, nothing can ever be accomplished, so conservatives should never fight for anything because the inevitable loss will discourage voters. If this is true — if the Republican establishment has no plans to ever deliver results — then there is no reason for voters and donors to support them.
Most Republicans avoid taking on the Washington Establishment because leadership controls committee assignments and millions in campaign cash.
Mike Lee needs to know that we have his back.
Mike Lee is an indispensable leader in Washington. He’s fearless. He’s relentless. And he’s one of the most principled men to ever serve in the Senate. He takes arrows every day from his supposed “allies” behind closed doors.
Whether you live in Utah or not, if you’re a principled patriot, Mike Lee is your senator, too.
Thank you for being part of our team and for doing so much to help fight for America’s future.
