Leadership Race Standouts
Senator John Thune (R-SD) was elected by secret ballot yesterday to replace Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) as the next Senate Republican Leader.
Senator Rick Scott (R-FL), the conservative choice, was eliminated on the first ballot, and Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) was narrowly defeated on the second ballot by a 29-24 vote.
The outcome of this race shows two things:
A majority of Senate Republicans are still stuck in the McConnell era and don’t know what time it is, but…
The appetite for change is growing, especially among the conservatives who were willing to publicly back Rick Scott.
There were other senators who supported Senator Scott privately, but the true standouts were:
Rick Scott (R-FL)
Ron Johnson (R-WI)
Bill Hagerty (R-TN)
Rand Paul (R-KY)
Tommy Tuberville (R-AL)
Mike Lee (R-UT)
Marsha Blackburn (R-TN)
Ted Cruz (R-TX)
Marco Rubio (R-FL)
Please support these conservatives today.
With the exception of Senator Rubio, who is leaving the Senate to serve as our next Secretary of State, these senators will lead the fight for us on Capitol Hill in the coming weeks and months.
They stood with us, and now we will stand with them!
Thank you for getting involved in this important leadership election. We’re excited to partner with you in the fight for America’s future.
