On November 1, a gang of Republican Senators went to the Senate floor to attack their colleague, Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), for defending the unborn.
Tuberville, as you may know, has been holding President Biden’s Defense Department nominations since the White House announced its nauseating new policy of paying for Pentagon employees’ travel expenses to get abortions. Congress never authorized this spending. Biden is just taking funds meant to save American lives and redirecting them to help take unborn Americans’ lives.
Democrats whine that Tuberville is preventing them from confirming urgent nominations. Nonsense. Tuberville is only objecting to en masse confirmations by unanimous consent. Senate Democrats could vote the nominations through, one by one, any time they please. But that would require them to work more than two-and-a-half days a week.
All summer and fall, Tuberville’s message to Democrats has been the same: if you want your nominees, drop the abortion policy or show up and do your jobs. The more nominations have piled up, the more Tuberville has shown how one principled fighter can take on even the military-industrial complex in Washington.
As if proving the point, the day after Halloween, Republican Senators Dan Sullivan, Joni Ernst, and Lindsey Graham took off their conservative masks and piled on Tuberville.
They questioned his character, honesty, intelligence, morality, and everything else under the sun. Why? Because he’s winning.
Please send him a quick note thanking him for his leadership.
Tommy Tuberville simply doesn’t think the Pentagon should be reallocating national security money to help pay for abortions — so he’s fighting. In doing so, he’s not hurting the military — he’s hurting the reputations of other Republican Senators.
Seeing Tuberville, grassroots conservatives have to wonder: if one freshman Republican Senator can have this much of an impact all by himself, why can’t 48, 49, 50, or 51 of them ever do the same? Why can’t Lindsey Graham, Joni Ernst, Dan Sullivan, or, for that matter, Mitch McConnell pick and win fights like this?
Why are they helping Joe Biden turn the Pentagon into an abortion travel agency? Why are they helping the media lie about Tuberville’s principled stand? Why, when Joe Biden’s weakness and corruption are inviting crises all over the world, are they focused on not having to work on Fridays?
Conservatives know the answer to those questions because this is Mitch McConnell’s Republican Party: the gang that can’t shoot straight turned into a circular firing squad.
This is the establishment at work — defending Washington from conservative reform instead of defending conservative values from Washington's dysfunction. And Americans are sick of it.
Tommy Tuberville is showing America who he is by exposing the corrupt Washington establishment. Please take one minute to thank him.
