Conservatives call the trial a "sham" and political "persecution"
The reaction to yesterday’s verdict in the New York trial of former President Donald Trump was swift and harsh. Here’s what our endorsed candidates said:
Rick Scott (Florida): This was a sham trial and the clearest example we’ve ever seen of election interference. I am furious and no American is safe from Democrat political persecution. Joe Biden and the Democrat machine manufactured a legal case against Trump to win an election. I went to New York to stand with President Trump and the American voters will stand with him this November.
Ted Cruz (Texas): This is a dark day for America. This entire trial has been a sham, and it is nothing more than political persecution. The only reason they prosecuted Donald Trump is because Democrats are terrified that he will win reelection. This disgraceful decision is legally baseless and should be overturned promptly on appeal. Any judge with a modicum of integrity would recognize that this entire trial has been utterly fraudulent.
Josh Hawley (Missouri): This is America under Democrat rule: prosecuting political opponents whether it’s pro-life Americans or a former President. This “trial” has been from beginning to end a complete and total sham, a mockery of the criminal justice system, and one of the most dangerous abuses of our political process in American history. Not since the Alien and Sedition Acts in the 1790s has a president tried to CRIMINALIZE his political opposition. Congrats, Joe Biden. You’re the worst president ever.
Trent Staggs (Utah): Unbelievable, we now live in a 3rd world “judicial” system. This manufactured conviction isn’t because he’s guilty it’s because they can’t beat him in the ballot box. Now more than ever, we need to come together and make sure he’s our president again.
Bernie Moreno (Ohio): Today is a dark day for American democracy. Joe Biden and his leftwing allies engaged in election interference to prosecute their top political opponent on bogus charges. This verdict is representative of a banana republic, not a democracy. Sherrod Brown and DC Democrats should be ashamed of this weaponization of our justice system.
Sam Brown (Nevada): First, they tried to keep Donald Trump off the ballot. Now, they are trying to keep him off the campaign trail. This has been a sham political trial from the beginning, all because DC Democrats are afraid of LOSING and answering for their failures this November.
Tim Sheehy (Montana): RIGGED! New York v. Donald Trump is state-sponsored political persecution led by the Party of Joe Biden and Jon Tester. WE THE PEOPLE stand with PRESIDENT TRUMP!
Kari Lake (Arizona): We just witnessed the most egregious example of election interference and an outright mockery of the rule of law in the 246-year history of our Republic. This entire process right down to the verdict itself has been nothing but a shameful political stunt. This is a non-crime that a Soros-backed DA conjured out of thin air and placed in front of a highly conflicted Democrat judge, all in an effort to imprison Joe Biden’s political opponent. The star witness in this case was a convicted perjurer, whose testimony before the court was one of the most embarrassing debacles ever seen in a courtroom. This conviction should be immediately reversed upon appeal, and this legal tyranny will be summarily rejected by the American people on November 5th.”
